How long have you been training in Taekwondo? And what got you started?
I first started Taekwondo in the year 2000 and have now been training for 12 years. What got me started was my curiosity of Martial arts and my parents’ support.
Highlights of your Taekwondo success?
My highlights of Taekwondo include getting my black belts and running centres in United Taekwondo.
Describe your first black belt grading, and what it took to get you there?
I found my first black belt grading to be more exciting than anything else. I can still remember it well to this day! It was very exciting and rewarding. I learnt lots on the day and also had a great boost in confidence when I passed my black belt test! What it took to get there was constant training and persistence, never giving up!
How often do you train? In Taekwondo? Gym? etc
I train as much as I possibly can. When not at training I exercise and practise and learn new patterns when I have free time.
Favourite Taekwondo move or moves?
- Flying side kick;
- Twin kicks;
- Back kick, jumping back kick;
- Forearm techniques.
What are your personal goals for the future?
My personal plans include:
- Study & hard work for my career;
- More community work;
- Further increase my knowledge in Taekwondo;
- Continue to improve my techning abilities and methods;
- Increase my physical attributes, speed, strength, technique, flexibility.
Your favourite saying and what this means?
“Black belt is when your training begins.” This means that before you become a black belt the previous training is the starting point. When you become a black belt you learn how to use the techniques, why and when to use them. Also the symbol of Black belt is teacher; you learn how to teach correctly as a black belt.
Best advice you can give someone training and wishing to start training in Taekwondo?
Currently training – Keep up the hard work! Never quit! You can accomplish anything!
Wishing to start – Give it your best! Have fun and learn as much as possible!
What other activities apart from Taekwondo do you enjoy?
Spending time with friends, reading, movies.
Favourite movie(s) and why?
Comedies and action movies.
With regards to Taekwondo where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
Teaching and promoting United Taekwondo. Teaching students to be the best they can be while still training and improving my own abilities to become the best I can be.
