How long have you been training in Taekwondo? And what got you started?
I have been training in Taekwondo for a number of years now. I played a lot of competitive sport when I was younger, and as an adult I was looking for something to keep me fit that was more interesting and challenging than the gym.
Highlights of your Taekwondo success?
For me, achieving second degree black belt is my latest highlight.
In regards to my students, getting them to achieve more than they think they are able to.
Describe your first black belt grading, and what it took to get you there?
It was a very busy grading on the day, and I accomplished all that was asked of me. This left me with a great sense of personal satisfaction, knowing that all the training was worth it.
How often do you train? In Taekwondo? Gym? etc
I normally attend classes to instruct and/or train four times per week.
Favourite Taekwondo move or moves?
Any move that distracts my opponent while I set up for the real attacking move. I enjoy being tactical when I spar and get a great sense of satisfaction when it works well.
What are your personal goals in Taekwondo?
To keep moving forward and inspiring my students to greater success.
Your favourite saying and what this means?
“Relax and enjoy your training”. Like all things, you perform better when you’re relaxed.
Best advice you can give someone training and wishing to start training in Taekwondo?
There is no expectation of you as a white belt. Just keep going and you will improve with training.
What other activities apart from Taekwondo do you enjoy?
I enjoy catching up with friends for a meal or coffee.
Favourite movie(s) and why?
No real favourites; something new is always good!
Mexican and anything that has bacon on it.
With regards to Taekwondo where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
In the next 5 years I would like to achieve 4th degree black belt and train as many of my students through to black belt as possible.
