3rd Dan Black Belt

Tamworth NSW Region – Tamworth West Dojang
How long have you been training in Taekwondo and what got you started?

I wanted to learn a martial art for as long as I can remember.

In 2012, I found I was preaching to my children that they had to go out and get what they wanted in life. I thought I had better lead by example.

Highlights of your Taekwondo success?

Every single time I proved to myself that “I could do it.”

Describe your first black belt grading, and what it took to get you there?

I was extremely nervous. I not only had to get up in front of everyone (not a big like with me), but I had to grade next to the two most awesome black tips ever……..my children.

For months the three of us trained together daily. We argued, we competed against each other, we supported each other, and this created an amazing bond. I still feel that level of emotion every time I put that belt on.

How often do you train in Taekwondo, gym etc?

I have two classes a week, and I use any excuse to join in. I also try to make at least two other classes every week.

I also have fun at boot camp and participate in the 5km park run once a week.

Favourite Taekwondo move or moves?

Side kick and patterns.

I never feel that I’ve got them right. I could work on perfecting these forever.

What are your personal goals in Taekwondo?

I want to challenge myself to be better every day than I was the one previous. There is still so much to learn.

Your favourite saying and what this means?

“Quiet people have the loudest minds.”

Just because someone is quiet, doesn’t mean that they don’t have a voice and something to say.

Best advice you can give someone training and wishing to start training in Taekwondo?

Ignore everything else and focus on what you want to achieve.

What other activities apart from Taekwondo do you enjoy?

Motor bike riding, playing guitar, camping, kayaking, spending time with the incredible people in my life.

Favourite movie(s) and why?

Deep Rising. Full of sarcastic one liners, it always manages to make me laugh.

Favourite food?

Mexican

With regards to Taekwondo where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

Working hard to achieve my next level. Working even harder to help those around me to achieve their goals.
