- Giving back to the community and helping others along their Taekwondo journeys.
Describe your first black belt grading, and what it took to get you there?
My 1st dan black belt grading was amazing achievement for me! When I started taekwondo, I hadn’t focused on my health and fitness for a long time and didn’t think I’d last months let alone 9 years, but with hard work, consistency and the great friends and mentors I’ve worked alongside here at United Taekwondo I was able to achieve my 1st Dan Black Belt.
How often do you train? in Taekwondo? gym? etc
I train and instruct 4 nights a week at the United Taekwondo branches and practice at home often going over all the patterns.
Favourite Taekwondo move or moves?
Hmm that’s a tough one as there are so many, but I would have to say hammer fist on 6 roof tiles for my 3rd Dan Black Belt was a move that I will never forget!
What are your personal goals in Taekwondo?
Instructing and mentoring what I have learnt to the next generation of United Taekwondo students as well as achieving my 4th Dan Black Belt is next on my list!
Your favourite saying and what this means?
Bruce Lee once said “Empty your mind, Be formless, Be shapeless, Be water my friend”
To me this means you are never too old to start something new, start over again, fail 100s off times, but if you get back up and put 100% in you can achieve anything you want.
Best advice you can give someone training and wishing to start training in Taekwondo?
Take the first step and do it, have fun and then be consistent and all the taekwondo benefits will follow making you physically and mentally fit!
What other activities apart from Taekwondo do you enjoy?
More taekwondo, fishing and motorbike riding.
Favourite movie(s) and why?
Any science fiction movies but my go to would be …. The Matrix.
Favourite food?
Chicken burgers!!
With regards to Taekwondo, where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
In 5 – 10 years I will be practicing and teaching Taekwondo as it is part of who I am now.
